A new baby calls for a gift that lasts longer than the bouquet on the doorstep. We make a lot of birth-announcement pieces here at Whishy — they're some of our most-requested orders — and over the years a clear shortlist has emerged of what new parents (and their friends and family) actually love receiving. Here are ten ideas, all custom-made, all printed in Bambu Lab PLA Matte filament, all dispatched within 5 to 10 business days. Most are personalised; some are quietly meaningful in a way mass-produced gifts can't quite reach.
1. Personalised birth announcement frame
The classic, and our most-ordered birth piece for good reason. A 3D-printed frame with the baby's name, birth date, weight, and length raised in the front layer — readable from across a room and architectural enough that it doesn't feel like a craft project. We offer separate boy and girl variants, and a neutral version that works for any family. Pick the colours of the frame and the lettering separately. Browse the birth announcement frames collection.
2. Family sculpture with the new arrival
For parents with older children, a personalised family sculpture is the gift that actually makes them tear up. Add a figure for each member of the family — including the baby — and pets if relevant. Each figure carries its own colour pick, and the configurator lets you reshape the family year by year (we're happy to add a future sibling later if it comes to that). See the full family collection.
3. Custom name keychain for the parents' keys
Less obvious, very practical. A keychain with the baby's name on the parents' keys. They'll see it every time they leave the house for the next decade. We offer single-letter initial-style keychains too if a full name is too on-the-nose for the recipients. Customise from the custom name keychain page; the initial letter version is more abstract.
4. Doll with glasses for an older sibling
If the older sibling wears glasses, the Whishy Dolls with Glasses collection is unique to us — Whishy was actually founded after the owner's daughter got glasses and no doll on the market reflected her. Picking one for the older sibling on the day the baby comes home turns a transition into a small ceremony. The dolls are sized to be hugged, not displayed.
5. Nursery vase
A small 3D-printed vase looks beautiful on a changing-table shelf or above a cot, and you can swap the dried-flower arrangement seasonally. Pick a colour that matches the room. The vases hold dried botanicals or a small glass tube for fresh flowers — see the care guide for the water rule.
6. Geometric planter for the nursery
Air-purifying houseplants in a soft-toned modern planter calm up a nursery surprisingly well. We recommend a snake plant or a pothos — both are forgiving to new parents who haven't watered anything in a month. Use an inner pot and drain off excess water (PLA isn't waterproof but the inner-pot trick works perfectly).
7. Custom NFC pet keychain (if there's a family pet)
An overlooked piece. New parents introducing a baby to a household pet are often anxious about the pet wandering. Our NFC smart pet keychain sits on the collar with the new baby's surname engraved and an NFC tag that holds the family's contact info — anyone with a phone can tap it and reach you if the pet goes wandering. Quietly thoughtful.
8. Personalised door name sign
For the nursery door. A 3D-printed name sign in the baby's name, in the cot-room colour palette, mounts cleanly with double-sided foam tape and lasts indefinitely. The lettering is part of the print — it can't peel — so it ages at the rate of the surrounding wood or paint. Customise the door name sign.
9. Seasonal ornament for baby's first holiday
If the baby arrives close to a holiday, a 3D-printed ornament with the year and the baby's name becomes the keepsake everyone hangs on the tree forever. We have seasonal celebration pieces for Christmas, Easter, and birthday-anniversary milestones. They're small, they pack well in a single envelope of tissue, and they get used annually rather than displayed once.
10. Workspace organiser for new parents going back to work
The least sentimental but most thoughtful: a workspace organiser with the baby's name laser-engraved or printed into the structure. Pen holders, desk trays, NFC tags. The parent goes back to work after parental leave and there's a small reminder of why on every video call. Quiet daily presence.
How to choose
Three questions narrow it down quickly. How sentimental is the recipient? Frames and family sculptures lean sentimental; vases and workspace pieces lean practical. How much space do they have? A nursery sculpture is intimate; a wall frame works in any space. Do they already have a 3D-printed Whishy piece? If yes, we can match colours from the previous order — message us with the order number and we'll send a render preview.
Lead times to plan around
Most birth announcement pieces take 5 to 10 business days from order confirmation. Birth frames with a lot of custom text take the longer end of that range because each name + date + weight gets type-set, rendered, reviewed, then printed. If you need a piece for a hospital visit or a baby shower, message us on WhatsApp before ordering and we'll confirm the date is realistic. Local pickup at our Niel studio is free; shipping to Belgium is €6.99 (free over €50).
Bulk projects
If you're a hospital, photographer, or maternity service looking to commission a small batch of birth announcement pieces for clients, we do bulk projects with tiered pricing — see the FAQ on bulk orders or email hello@whishy.be with the rough quantity and date. Orders over 50 pieces typically include a free render preview round.
If you're stuck choosing, send us a message — we'll talk it through.
