Christening gifts that carry the child's name

At a Belgian christening the parents hand out doopsuiker, and the godparents, grandparents and guests bring the gifts. The gifts that get kept are the ones with the child's name on them. Whishy makes those: guardian angel sculptures, birth frames with the name, birth date, weight and height, and freestanding initials for the nursery, all 3D-printed to order in Niel.

A guardian angel is the traditional christening gift in Belgium, and ours is a minimalist 13 or 18 cm figure in matte PLA, €18.99 on its own or €22 as an angel watching over a child. The birth frame (€29.99) records the full birth details around a photo, which makes it the piece grandparents ask for.

Prices run from €12.99 for an initial to €29.99 for a birth frame, well under the usual €30 to €50 a godparent spends, and every piece is made for this one child.

  • Guardian angel sculptures from €18.99
  • Birth frame with name, date, weight & height €29.99
  • Classic (13 cm) or Statement (18 cm) sizes

A figure holding a heart: for a christening it reads as love and protection, and it suits families who prefer a non-religious symbol.

When to order

Christenings are planned weeks ahead, so there is normally time. Sculptures and initials are ready in about 3 to 5 business days; a birth frame with custom text takes up to 10 because the details are printed into the piece and checked by hand. Order two weeks before the ceremony and it arrives with room to spare.

If you are the godparent in another country, we ship to the Netherlands, France and Germany (€11.99, free from €75) and you can have it sent straight to the parents' address.

Questions people ask

What is a typical christening gift in Belgium?

Godparents traditionally give something lasting with the child's name: a guardian angel, a piece of jewellery, a birth frame or a savings contribution. Whishy's guardian angel sculptures (€18.99 to €22) and personalised birth frames (€29.99) are the pieces most often bought for a doopfeest or baptême.

Can the birth frame show the exact birth details?

Yes. The frame is printed with the name, birth date, time, weight, height and place of birth, and the centre holds a newborn photo. You enter the details in the customisation box when ordering.

Do you make non-religious christening or naming-ceremony gifts?

Yes. The Heart Guardian sculpture, the initials and the birth frames carry no religious symbol, so they suit a naming ceremony or a lentefeest family just as well.
